Our
Story.
In my early years, my family and I spent some time living in the small coastal town of South West Rocks on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales . As we grew; moving around a lot, we’d always return for holidays full of sun, beach days and (most importantly) catching up with family who still lived in the area. Wherever I was in the meantime, this area of the world always felt the most like home.
In my early 20’s I discovered van life myself. Opting out of the norm of expensive rent and a 9-5, I set myself up with what was seen as a very ‘alternate’ lifestyle. Purchasing my first van, I headed out west to work for 5 days; returning to the coast to explore on my 5 days off. I fell in love with surfing and was instantly drawn to the laid back, slow, small town lifestyle of Crescent Head. I can remember spending many a day parked in this little van (a little Mercedes MB100 that didn’t love to start) at the back beaches dreaming of one day calling this place home!
Having spent a good part of my recent years living in the beautiful city of Newcastle, I always thrived off the chance to escape the city to find uncrowded waves and beaches; leading to the inevitability of heading north on my days off in my second van (a 2006 SLWB Toyota Hiace; which was MUCH more reliable). The slow burning idea of quitting my job to fit out custom vans for others grew from these moments, eventuating in what we have today.
In 2022, we launched ‘Somewhere North Van Fitouts’ in Newcastle. The past few years have been spent expanding our knowledge, sharpening our skills and growing the business to where it is toady. We’ve worked alongside some incredible people and thrive off bringing others dreams to life!
In 2024, the time had come to sell up shop in Newcastle and lay the foundations of a move up the coast. We’ve purchased our own little 5 acres of paradise nestled in the bush just outside of Crescent Head and here’s where ‘Crescent Head Van Fitouts’ was born! We are so excited and have so many big plans for the future.
The past few years has seen an absolute BOOM in the ‘van-life’ movement. Seeing everyday humans coming around to the realisation that there’s an affordable and efficient way of travelling/living has been super enlightening to watch! Gone are the days of exploring our beautiful country being an expensive, time consuming and often inconvenient experience.
